The first systematic underwater survey along the coast of Adana was initiated in 2018.
Scuba diving, sonar surveys, and shoreline-beach surveys were conducted around the ancient harbors of Karataş/Magarsus and Yumurtalık/Aigeai, as well as their vicinity, yielding important data. Ancient cities near the coastal area of Adana, along with their ports, have played a significant role in many important events in the Eastern Mediterranean for thousands of years. As a result of the archaeological underwater research carried out in these areas, ships that sank in open waters due to the density of ceramic materials washing ashore, maritime structures built along the coast (such as docks, piers, and breakwaters), and remains submerged as a result of earthquakes and water rises were examined.
