The Purpose of the Association and the Working Subjects, Forms, and Field of Activity to be Continued by the Association to Achieve This Purpose
The association aims to ensure the activation and development of scientific activities in the field of Mediterranean archaeology, to protect and support the conservation of cultural heritage along the coast and underwater, to conduct awareness studies on cultural heritage protection, to support scientific excavations and research, to contribute to museum and archeopark projects in the region, and to carry out scientific activities. It was established to support scientists and organizations working in this field. The association was founded in Antalya by a group of archaeologists, businessmen, and tourism professionals.
The president of the association is Mr. Hakan Bulgurlu.
The infrastructure of Akdeniz University for underwater archaeology research and excavations includes the Akdeniz University Underwater Archaeology Research Center, based in Kemer.
The association operates in coastal and underwater archaeology, the protection of underwater and land-based cultural heritage, and the support of laboratories working on the conservation and restoration of artifacts found both underwater and on land. It also conducts scientific studies on conservation and restoration, carries out educational and awareness activities for the preservation of cultural heritage, and provides training in archaeology and history. Additionally, within the framework of integrating cultural heritage into tourism, the association works to establish museum and archeopark areas in Türkiye.
